TransAlp - Stage 4 - Scuol to Livigno
Published by benthompson August 7th, 2006 in General
We left the beautiful town of Schuol and headed up the valley and out over another picturesque pass, racers sustaining their best pace after 4 days on the legs. Today we had 3 major climbs with a net elevation gain however none exceeded 15%. Scary when 15% seems mellow. We keep a steady pace and leap-frogged our way from group to group as the leaders shelled off those who couldn’t maintain. We made up a lot of time tearing down some of the best singletrack we’ve seen yet and took advantage of all those races up at SkiBowl. In the last 20K we began seeing some of the teams close to us on GC and “gave ‘er” to put a little extra time into them.
Unfortunately the ripping downhill took its toll on my bike and blew my fork leaving a nice stream of oil running down the fork. Spent most of the afternoon frantically trying to find a solution and the local bike shop was happy to oblige in the end. At least I didn’t get the RockShox REBA they wanted 900EU for. Ouch. Tomorrow’s the queen stage with 118K and a major climb in the middle. We moved up to 15th in Open Men today so hopefully we can keep the bodies and bikes in one piece for 4 more days of this madness.
Ciao!
