A Race Season Primer

So unless you decided to race cyclocross this past winter, your brain has most likely massaged away all memory of pain and agony in racing and left behind the kind recollections of dirt trails and camaraderie that make this sport so fun. Or maybe you decided that this season you would like to tackle marathon events to perhaps do more miles under presumably less intense conditions? Well, here's a reminder from last season that racing hurts, and that the marathon is only a longer and more painful version of XC!
For a short synopsis, Norba Marathon #1 in AZ (ver.2006) started fast and never let up. Dave kept a steady pace and made up for a bad start (see logjam in video) to finish 10th in the Pro category. Lots of riders cracked under the heat. I'm glad I was watching and not racing. Dave came back the next day to start the Semi-Pro Stage race, which he won overall. Rad.
But if you thought marathon races started any easier? Think again.
