US Marathon Nationals Still...trying...to...catch...my...breath. That's what racing at 11,000ft feels like. I hooked up with the Oregon Kona boys (Tonkin/Trebon) and flew out to Colorado for the US National Marathon Championships held in Breckenridge. After gasping up the stairs to our 3rd floor condo and going for a quick spin with Erik on Tuesday I knew we were in for a big 4th of July and I'm not talking about hot dogs, beer and barbequing (although that did come later).

The race began with a euro-style neutral rollout of the 700 racer strong field, spinning through town behind the local mayor with thousands of people out to watch the start and following parade. Pretty cool way to start what turned into a day of MUCH suffering.

The course consisted of over 11,000ft of climbing - mostly up doubletrack with some nasty steep pitches, rough, rocky singletrack, hairball-loose gully downhills and when I was able to peel my eyes off the ground some amazing views all packaged into 50 miles....
