What I Do: Full time professional athlete who is also studying for a Medical Science degree by distance education through Curtin University. Although I started this degree full time at Sydney University, I have found that with the constraints of racing and traveling, the flexibility of distance education allows me a fantastic opportunity to complete my studies. I hope to use this degree to go on and study a Master of Sports Nutrition.
Hobbies: Cooking, reading, restaurants, family, inspiring sport
Favourite Food: With so many different and wonderful foods available in Australia it is hard to pick a favourite. I must confess though that I have been known to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a good mango! Another favourite would have to be the highly underrated quince as well as beautiful fresh seafood and I am also a bit of a sucker for ice cream and good chocolate! There is some unfounded myth that athletes are unable to enjoy food or indulge in treats - my philosophy is that you should be able to eat anything - but just watch how much and how often! Another aspect of travelling that I love is being able to enjoy different cultures and their different foods.
Favourite Books and Movies: Although many of the books I have lying around are study related I love reading and find it a great way to switch off. Again hard to pick a favourite so I won't. I also love going to the movies and my favourite would have to be 'Life is Beautiful'. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it is a must (see the subtitled version not the dubbed version).
Inspiration: When asked to name a favourite sports hero I am always unable to do so. This is because there are so many different people from so many sports (and life in general) whom I admire and am inspired by that to name just one or even a handful would be missing the point. I truly believe that you are able to learn from and appreciate qualities within every person whether from within sport or not. There is always something that you can take away from an individual - it is entirely up to you however how you use this experience or inspiration to better yourself.
Favourite things to do on a day off: Cook up a storm for and with family and friends.
Go for a walk over the headlands at Lennox looking for whales and dolphins followed by a swim at the beach.
Go to the local farmers markets.
Head out for a relaxed brunch.
Go to one of my favourite restaurants or try something new.
Curl up inside with a good movie and a hot chocolate.
Favourite music to listen to before a race: (there may be some surprises here but it gets me psyched up!) Hip Hop, Gangster Rap and some amped up Dance
Favourite music to relax to: Chillout and Classical
Secret Ambition: To open a deli-café with my mum and brother!
Hates: Sitting near sick people who are sniffing on planes!
Something you may not know about me: I was the two time champion School Billycart racer!
